Silicone is a non-porous material, which means ink does not easily soak in. While there isn’t a perfect pen for silicone, our tests have shown that some options perform better than others.
Recommended pens (in order of effectiveness):
- Acrylic Paint Marker (e.g., Edding, Molotow) — Offers the best adhesion and longest-lasting results. Highly recommended for the clearest and most durable writing.
- Oil-Based Pen (e.g., BIC, Uniball, Pilot) — A good alternative if a paint marker is unavailable. Note: ink may still rub off with use.
- Regular Alcohol-Based Permanent Marker (e.g., Sharpie) — Tends to wear off the quickest on silicone, so not recommended for long-term use.
Tips for Long-Lasting Writing
- Let the ink dry completely before touching or packing the luggage tag.
- Avoid heavy rubbing or friction on the writing area to prevent fading.
