Texas Hold'em Poker Rules
3-10 players
Contents: 108 poker chips, 52 playing cards
OBJECTIVE:
Make the best five-card hand using a combination of the two 'hole cards' you are dealt and the five 'community cards' on the table to win the pot. Use one, both, or none of your hole cards in making the hand.
SETUP:
Each player receives the same value of poker chips.
HOW TO PLAY:
Blinds, shuffle & Deal
1. Each player draws a card and whoever has the highest card starts as the Dealer. This position rotates clockwise after every hand.
2. Games begin with 'The Blinds' which are small bets added into the pot to ensure there is something to win. The player to the left of the dealer puts in the 'big blind', which is twice the small blind amount.
3. The dealer shuffles the deck of cards and every player is dealt two cards, face down. These are known as the 'hole cards'. Check these cards and be careful not to let anyone see them.
Betting
4. The player to the left of the two who posted the blinds starts the betting round. If any player places a bet, (there is no limit on this amount), other players can:
- Call - match the previous highest bet.
- Raise - increase the previous highest bet amount.
- Fold - give up their cards and any chips already in the pot.
The Flop
5. After the first betting round, the dealer removes the top card from the deck known as the 'burn card' just incase anyone saw the top card.
6. The dealer puts three cards face up on the table. These cards are called the 'flop' and are teh first three of the five community cards that anyone can use as part of their hand.
7. Another round of betting takes place after the flop, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer. During this and all future rounds of betting, when it's a players turn to bet they can: 'Call', 'Raise', or 'Fold' as above or:
- Check - play passes to the next player without placing a bet but if another player does 'Raise' the bet then the checked player has to decide to 'Call' or 'Fold'.
The Turn
8. The dealer 'burns' the top card on the deck, adds a fourth card face-up to the community cards, and a further round of betting takes place.
The River
9. The dealer 'burns' another card before placing the fifth and final community card face up on the table.
The Showdown
Players need to form the best possible five-card hand using any combination of seven cards - their two 'hold cards' that only they know, and the five community cards.
10. The final round of betting starts.
11. All players who remain in the game at the end reveal their hands. The player with the best hand wins and claims the pot.
- If a player bets and all other players fold, they win and are not required to show the hole cards.
